Service Description

Course Description / Overview The Basic Electricity course which will study the theory and use of electricity. Included in this course will be electrical and shop safety, study of AC and DC theory, AC and DC circuits and their components, electrical symbols, and the proper use of electrical test equipment. The student will become familiar with industry and be exposed to common practices and techniques used in their field of study. The student will learn the importance of working safely and professionally in the workplace. Course Outline 1. Introduction 2. Basic Electrical Safety 3. Theory of electron flow 4. Voltage, Current and Resistance 5. Using Ohm’s Law 6. Measuring Voltage, current and resistance using multimeter 7. Use Kirchhoff’s laws to solve electrical circuit problems 8. Wire and determine values in a series resistive circuit 9. Wire and determine values in a parallel resistive circuit 10. Student will determine open, short and normal operation of circuits using multimeter 11. Student will determine DC current, voltage and wattage values in a circuit. 12. Student will determine AC current, voltage and wattage values in a circuit. 13. Use capacitors in a circuit and determine the reactance of a capacitor at a given frequency. 14. Use inductors in a circuit and determine the reactance of an inductor at a given frequency. 15. Use transformers in a circuit and determine voltage step-up or step-down 16. Use and understand relays in a circuit.
